The University of Bonn calls highly qualified scholars from all fields to join a selective short-term research fellowship programme with stays of up to 12 days. Teachers at our strategic partner universities and institutions in our priority countries for international cooperation are invited to apply. This fellowship is not merely a visit but a chance to become part of Bonn's scholarly scene. Fellows will be fully engaged in our academic community, becoming familiar with our university and the larger scholarly community. In addition to enhancing your existing research, these fellowships are intended to develop new paths for future collaborative research projects between the visiting scholars and our researchers.

Even though the fellowships provide a stipend of €160 per day, travel allowance to a foreign country, and up to €500 material expenses for up to events, it should also be noted that external researchers are not received directly but instead must be nominated by a host professor from the University of Bonn. Highest priority will be given to researchers from the University's strategic partner institutions and countries top of the international collaboration priority list.

What are the benefits of Bonn International Fellowships in Germany 2026?

1. The program covers the cost of your travel to and from Bonn.
2. The amount you get covered for travel will vary according to your country of origin, so that researchers from different parts of the world are accommodated on their way to the University of Bonn.
3. You will be paid €160 for each day of your stay in Bonn, for a maximum of 12 days. This counts both your arrival and departure days to give you financial support for accommodation, food, and other personal expenses during your research stay.
4. Grants to assist your host institution in organising events for which your visit is in any way relevant.
5. Your host institution in the University of Bonn, may receive as much as €500 per proposal to help meet material costs for events that they organise with your fellowship.
6. Academic gathering funds for refreshments and meals. They can spend as much as €50 per outside visitor or €40 per member of the University of Bonn attending. This aids networking and conversation.
7. Funds are also available for activities that advance your research and the fellowship, like the production of information materials, arranging public lectures, or other activities to raise your visibility in the academic community and elsewhere.
8. All money given for your fellowship, including the daily stipend, travel, and expenses of events, is required to be expended by December 31, 2026.

2. When you have a host professor, it will be them who will submit your application on your behalf. You will collaborate with them in producing all the required documents.
3. Prepare Your Project Description. This is an important document, up to 6 pages.
4. You must provide your informal agreement to your host to enable them to apply on your behalf.
5. Your host professor will fill in and submit the online application form with all the documents gathered.
